Mine was screeching from day one.  Never did figure out where it was coming from.  Didn't think it was from the rollers cause I wash them with soapy water and a brush while the machine is running and it never stopped.  You can hear it in the video I made.

Use mineral oil in those 4 little holes where the bushings are.  I stand mine on end, add the oil and turn it on.  I do that after every use.

Is Vince really going to grow purple hulls?  A Canuck growing Southern peas strikes me as hilarious.  I know he'll love them but it just seems so odd since so much of the US hasn't discovered them yet.  He'll surely be the only one in the neighborhood, at least until somebody gets a taste of them.

@Gail, I definitely scored with that sheller.  No taxes, no customs fees, no shipping cost.  I just have to seed my peas now to be able to test the sheller in the Fall.

@Tutti, I will try with a couple of different kinds of peas, but I don't have any seeds for the purple hull, so I will have to wait for next year to try those.   Grin

I can't say enough good things about the Taylor pea sheller.  I've had one for the past 10 years or so, and truthfully I wouldn't plant any peas at all if I didn't have the sheller.

I have shelled lots of Blackeyed peas, pinto beans, and DRY pinto beans with mine.  Works great with all of them.

Here's a tip:  If you get one, don't go around bragging about how well it works.  Your neighbors will all be wanting to borrow it.

I tried out my new Taylor pea sheller with some TPPHP this weekend.  Man does that thing work great!!  I went through a couple of bushel baskets full in just a little bit.  The quality of the peas is fantastic with very few crushed or broken.  To my way of thinking it has already paid for itself in time saved and I have only used it once Grin

If I get a decent crop in the fall I will.  It is way too hot down here for sweet peas until fall.

Well, bit the bullet and ordered the sheller.  I should have tripped Vince at the get together  and snagged the one he got!!!

Looks like the peas might could be as good as the taters.

I got a feeling Gail you'll have that new sheller on your door step within a week.   Grin

Plant more peas, it's not too late.

After watching Donalds video I'm seriously thinking about ordering one of these shellers. The only question I have is will it shell butter beans. Anybody tried it on them yet?

I bought one of these shellers back in the early 1970's, have not used it for a couple of years now, tried it and it did not work real good. This past Friday carried it back to the manufacturing plant in Moultrie, Ga they changed the rollers and gears while we waited, took about 45 minutes.  Shelled 4 bushels of sandees peas this Sunday.  Average time per bushel was only 12 minutes.  This thing works GREAT now.

Ok for all of us northerners, with the exception of Vince, I have to ask when shelling the bean are you doing it completely dry or a bit green? I shell dry string beans and it is tough work. I've done it so long that way that I have gotten used to it but if there was an easier way to do the shelling I would be all over that. Am I looking up the wrong tree or am I on to something? Any advice.

If I could find something that would do more I'd plant our an acer and give it a try. Without a combine I would be just looking at hard work going down the drain cause I couldn't do that many dry in my life time.

When I shell my purple hull the pods are about half purple half green.  The peas are still soft.  Then you can either can em or freeze em.

If the bean was laid out in the sun it should dry off. I use the seed for seed of course and also to eat. I haven't planted much since it's such a chore to hull them when completly dry. Maybe this is what I ought to look into.

What a great video, Donald!  Thank you very much.  this will be very helpful for the folks that shall remain nameless that hate written instructions put this fine piece of equipment together.

Now I am the one that loves instructions and really like putting things together.  He who shall remain nameless...not so much!

thanks again,

Gail ... In all fairness to "nameless"  Grin  the instructions are not the best.  The first one I put together took me a couple of tries to get it right.
