Sauerkraut question

I made some of the uncanned sauerkraut with red and green cabbage. I let it ferment and then refrigerated it. Once I refrigerated it, the top portion of each jar turned brown. Is it okay? Should I just take that top part off and throw it away?

Did the kraut become uncovered by the brine? I might discard the brown just in case. I do my ferments in a pickle miester witch is covered. May want to check it out. Its just a gallon jar with an air lock in the lid. I also made one from a 2 gallon bucket with a lid.
