Got To Do Some More Picking Today

After being in South Texas last week for work, I had alot of suprises in the garden this morning. Got my first good picking of Contenders and cucumbers along with more squash, zuchinni, japalenos, and banana peppers. Spent the afternoon washing, blanching and freezing the contenders.

Take all those Zukes that ya aint gonna eat and run them thru the food processor and shred them....put them in freezer bags and throw em in the freezer.

I have had about the same result. I really like the way contenders make. I wish I would've planted more than I did. Next year...

Every acre of corn grown requires at least 50 gallons of oil and a lot of acres are planted every year.
The average processed food item travels 1,500 miles before it is consumed.
More than 1/2 of all the synthetic nitrogen made is applied to corn. Synthetic nitrogen is derived from natural gas. Hybrid corn is “designed” to convert nitrogen to food at greater speed.
The cow does not naturally eat corn. They eat grass. Feed corn has to be smashed, treated, and combined with other things before a cow will eat it and even then if the cow isn't fed antibiotics it will get sick and die.

This year the weather has been good to us. I was pleased with the flavor of the Contenders. I changed over to them this year from the Kentuky Wonders.
