Last saterday i planted two flats on onions, watered good and put onto heat matt and coverd with domes.

I think i have plenty of water as long as the domes are sweating, no lights yet.

they are sprouting already my question is when do i need to put under lights and get rid of the domes.

I didint think they would sprout for at least a week its only been 5 days.

thanks

I'd take the heat and the domes off when about half have germinated.  They grow well with cool temps.

I pulled off once I seen a few sprouting and the rest followed under the lights.. love the ease of growing them from seed.. probably will give them a haircut soon.. Using some worm tea feeding and so far so good.. Smiley

Most seed charts list bulb-type onion seed counts at around approximately 9,000 an ounce and bunching-onion seed counts at around 12,500 an ounce, so you shouldn't lack for sets.  Grin    You might even get some business selling some sets locally around where you live.

Here's a link for a seed count chart:   http://www.willhiteseed.com/PlantingGuide.php

I offered my extras, about 25, to a new neighbor and was pleasantly surprised that she went straight to work on a bed and had them planted before long.  It's going to be fun to have a new gardening buddy.
