At any given time we have the following floating around our place, give or take a few:

2 Dogs (1 Black Lab, 1 Wired Hair Terrier).  The Terrier (Ginger) tracks deer.  Here's a pic of her at work:

5 Pet Cats
2 Ferel/Barn Cats (Adopted from New Orleans.  They were living in an apartment complex that was going to be demolished.  Big mistake.  They are used to pooping on concrete, not grass.  My hubby's going to lose it one of these days)   Shocked
60 Hens
4 Roosters
41 Eggs in the incubator.
100 Catfish
Oh, and about 2000 worms!

How about you?

One lazy boss cat (supervises me while I am at work).
One chow/golden mix (just as lazy).
4 barred rock hens (bossy little divas).
Used to have an Aussie (RIP).

Now my wish list would be more chickens, a few head of cattle (couple of good bulls), 2 pigs, more dogs, etc.  Unfortunately, people around here keep telling me no, not until after the move!!

Where you headed in the move?  If you're nearby or passing through, I have plenty of laying hens and you can have your pick.  Most of mine will be 1 year this summer, so they are prime laying.

I'm trying to weed out my White Leghorns somewhat, even though they are the best layers..  My brother sells a few eggs on the side and everybody wants the brown ones.  Funny.

I'm in Lafayette now, but hopefully I will be joining my husband up in Washington state this time next year.  Wish I could come get some of your Leghorns, but I can't figure out how I am going to move my 4 girls now.  Mine are a year old at the end of the month.

I was stationed in Tacoma, Washington for a couple of years when I was in the Army many, many years ago.  I love it there!  As a matter of fact, I'm taking my mom to Seattle on vaca next month.

If you can't figure out how to get your girls there and need a good home, mine all free range and get fed every hour on the hour (deer feeder on a timer).  They can come join the party at my place!

grnhrn:  No problem, the more the merrier.

jeff51765:  I have 8 or 9 rare Silver Spangled Hamburg's that aren't a great fit for me.  They are naturally thin and can fit under the barn gate, so of course they do.  Hubby doesn't care for chicken poop on his tools much, so he'd be happy if they went away.  They are great layers, but they have a personality similar to White Leghorns (they keep their distance).   I'm the type that likes to carry my hens around and pet them  Smiley  Here's a pic of one at about 4 months.  They're larger now:

You're welcome to all of them, no charge of course!

fasteamback ...  I know where Plaucheville / Dupont is.  Taking my time it's about a 15 minute drive from me.  Use to have a lot of people with rabbit dogs in that area.  Now they have lots of deer hounds.

Donald

The name of fellow that the dogs came from is Albert Gremillion, and he says they run rabbits every day and kill 500 to 700 per year?
One of the dogs that came from him is so good that if you don't shoot the rabbit he will eventually catch it and bring it back to you.

Fastteamback--Quick lesson please (cause I know this is not the place for this question).  What is the difference between a roping horse and a cutting horse??  And where could I get info on roping events to go watch??  Thanks!!

The horses are both breed to cow, which means they have a built in desire to torment cattle, cutting horses keep a cow from getting back to the herd where as a rope horse is trained to run them down.
The main difference is the amount of money the owner has, cutting horse people are loaded, team ropers are, for lack of a better word "cheap"
As far as finding places to go watch you just need to look it up on the internet in your area for either rodeos, team roping or cuttings, and only the rodeos charge an admission, cause after about 30 mins of a team roping or cutting its like watching paint dry, of course the competition is where you get that adrenaline rush.

That's a nice mix sandman.  Not too much of any one thing to get tired of it.  What's your favorite?

I've been thinking of getting angora rabbits.  I had a couple about 10 years ago but never replaced them when they passed.  I remember them being nasty things, but I have a barn and much more room for them now.  Not rushing into it though...

Personally I don't have any animals, but I do have about 20 of the neighbors dogs that keeps my yard well fertilized, they use my place as a private toilet. Also there are about that many if not more  of cats  that visits the place at different times, they too use it as a litter box. A neighbor has horses that will occassionally get out of their pasture and just about destroys the front yard with hoof prints, the only time they "escape" their pasture it seems, is when the ground is really soft from a recent freeze of after the ground is completely saturated with rain water, If all this continues, I am going to get the biggest breed Bull Mastiff dog and a Manx cat, raise them together and then let them patrol the place to run or kill off any of the neighbors  pets that wanders onto the place. I get tired of slinging their messes when I mow the grass each time, since I have no animals I can't figure why I have to be the one that has to smell it or clean my mowers of it afterwards.

I used to have a Manx named Bobby (of course).  That was the best cat ever!

I'd post a pic, but would have to scan it in because it was taken in the days before digital..  If I come across one floating around, I'll post it just for you NorteK J, because I can tell you're a *real* animal lover!   Grin
